It has been my privilege to partner and work with the biggest diabetes organizations in the world. Currently, as the Vice President of Operations at the American Diabetes Association, I am responsible for the Science & Health Care Division's strategy, operational integrity, and special projects. A key highlight has been writing and being awarded a CDC grant related to diabetes prevention for $12.5 million!
Before working at the ADA, I was a Senior Director (Psychosocial Research and Mission) at JDRF.
I had the privilege to serve at the University of South Florida in the College of Medicine and the College of Public Health. In my role as the Executive Director of Bringing Science Home, I created and administrated over a dozen research projects focused on diabetes, conducted original research, created community programs, and secured sustaining program funding ($5.66 million lead gift and several additional grants). During this time, I created the Students With Diabetes national program that severed thousands of young adults with type 1 diabetes and through that program I executed national young adult conferences for 10 years.
Beginning with my time as Miss America 1999, I spent 20 years traveling as a public speaker and educator. This professional period took me to 14 countries and all 50 states! During that time, I became the author/co-author of 8 books and then co-authored 6 children's books with my daughter. I also hosted an award winning television show on CNBC called dLife. My work has been focused on diabetes education, empowerment, and character development.
